FAQ

Do I need to use a footprint with this tent?

The Space Dome has a relatively waterproof (2500mm) floor, so can be used in fairly wet (but not downright boggy) conditions without a footprint. However, a footprint will protect the floor from damage on abrasive surfaces.

Unbelievably quick setup. Packs down small

I found the tent easy to set up. What I really, really liked was that it also folded/struck back down really easily and that the carrying bag for this is well thought out. The bag is well stitched. The first closure is drawstring. This is backed up with quick-release buckles. I like redundant systems, especially on my gear. I like knowing that if one system fails the backup will keep the tent from expanding in my bag.

Shall I say "aerodynamic" or "waterdynamic"?

I have had many tents since I was a "Boyscout" about 50 years ago. Some made of thin fabrics, others thick. Some did perform well under the rain, others leaked (I never forget one rainy weekend in which we spent most of the days soaked and wet). Not only the fabric must be "waterproof" to keep campers dry, but it's dynamic and design is also important. I love this "dual purpose" tent. If there would be no rain, it would be great to take the cover off at night! Very light, easy to set up and repack, if this is truly waterproof (have not tested yet) , this is a winner! Excellent design!

Great stargazing tent!

There's a lot to like about this tent. The fact that it has doors on both sides is a serious plus. I get a little claustrophobic in tents but this one has a high center and the walls are almost completely vertical which helps a lot. The rainfly comes off by simply unclipping it from the tent at the base.
The rainfly also has Velcro attachments that allow for additional venting.
My favorite part of this tent so far is that it's all mesh on the top. This is the best design for stargazing on cool summer nights.
Stitching seems good. Stakes it came with seem sturdy enough, which isn't usually the case for tents I've had in the past. Didn't need to use them this time though.
No footprint included.

High Quality Large 2 person tent

I love that there are buckle straps that come with the tent for connecting the rainfly to the tent and for keeping everything bundled together. All the sacks/bags are well made. The stakes are sturdy and the guy lines have metal cinchers. This is a well thought out and made tent. I love that the instructions for erecting the tent are sewn into the side of the tent carry bag so there’s never an issue of lost instructions. It is huge inside. When I think of a two person tent this thing is like a mansion. Plenty of room inside the tent for gear or in the vestibules out either door. No more crawling over the other person to get out. I was able to put it together solo in five minutes and same for breakdown including having everything tidily packed and back in the carry sack.

Packs away small!

What can I say about this tent?
It’s a simple, no frills tent that gets the job done for your typical two person camping experience. It has a floor area of roughly 4.5 feet width by 7 feet in length. One very neat part of this tent is the addition of the cross bars above the top which assist in providing additional headspace. This was something that I find very nice because morning dew can sometimes build up on the tent and cause a wet head when waking up and “bumping” your head on the ceiling of the tent. With the addition of the cross bars, this wet head is less of an issue.

One other element that I liked about this tent is the color that it comes in. The burnt orange and blue are great for letting yourself and others know that your tent is nearby. This way you can see it if you need to go out for a midnight restroom break.

I do have one con that should be noted…While the title marks this tent as a “backpacking” tent, it is rather hefty weighing in at a little over 6 pounds. For that reason, I will likely only be using this when I am setting up for a camping trip. Nonetheless, I would recommend this as a viable option for camping should someone I know be on the look out for a nice two person tent.
